Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) contributes between 15 percent and 40 percent of a building’s electrical demand, depending on the building use and location. With a diversity of buildings and climate zones, DoD operates and maintains hundreds of thousands of HVAC systems and components. In addition to the utility costs associated with HVAC use, DoD carries a significant maintenance burden to keep the systems operating and functioning as designed. A poorly functioning HVAC system can result in increased utility costs and poor indoor air quality.
ESTCP is demonstrating solutions for improved component efficiency, optimized system performance, reduced operations and maintenance costs and improved indoor air quality.
