The DoD’s mission relies on built and natural infrastructure that is vulnerable to rising sea levels. SERDP and ESTCP are developing tools that define DoD installations’ exposure and sensitivity to climate change hazards. The programs are also focused on generating knowledge, tools, and technologies that build adaptive capacity with greater resilience to extreme weather events.
Program investments led to the development of the DoD Regional Sea Level (DRSL) database. The DRSL Database is a scenario-based tool that assists with climate-informed decisions based on plausible depictions of future seal level rise conditions. It is now mandated for use in DoD installation master planning and civil engineering design for all coastal locations.
